3 Tips on Applying to Grants

In need of funding for your business and don’t know where to start? Grants are a great resource to look into to get capital for your business or project. There are thousands of grants around the world for every industry and project type you can think of. Here are 3 important tips to remember when searching and applying for grants! Be sure to check out my Funding Resource page with a list of grants you can apply to today.

#1 RESEARCH INDUSTRY-SPECIFIC GRANTS

You may not think you can find funding with your type of business, but you’ll be surprised how many grants are out there made just for you. From restaurants, retail, bookstores, clothing, beauty, art, tech, and more, you can find a grant that’s specific to your business or project. This can be a great place to start so that you’re going exactly where you’re wanted!

#2 FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS

It sounds simply but it’s extremely important to follow all the instructions outlined in a grant application. You don’t want your application being tossed out for a simple mistake of not including your TAX ID number. Try to fill out the application in completeness, including the optional sections. The more information you provide allows for your application to stand up in a stack of thousands of competitors.

#3 KNOW YOUR FUNDER

When looking for grants, make sure you’re also looking at who is providing the grant. What companies are sponsoring or investing in the grant? Is it a company that’s more relaxed and fun with its marketing? Is the company backing the grant serious and extremely professional with everything they do? Are they looking for young and trending businesses or more traditional companies?  This will all matter when it comes to the application and your tone in everything you submit. If a video is required and the company hosting the grant is an upbeat, fun company, you can get away with adding music, cool editing, and using a more openminded personality.
